Hi Greg
I originally thought this was a junkyard car rolling over (no license plate and
a few other details that look different from the car in the earlier scenes).
But Aussie Datsun buff Alan Bent says they actually did wreck the car in the
early scenes. Alan's partner Ruth says that one of the production
crew of the movie apparently took the car with the intention of restoring it
(?!), but didn't. He sold it
to another chap who had the same intention, who then sold it to Alan. Alan used
it for a parts car, so there are still parts of this car in use today!
This was the opening clip to something of a cult movie, made back in 1972, but
there are no more Datsuns featured. The opening scene was really out of context
compared with the rest of the film - something of a spoof cigarette commercial,
but I definitely thought it was worth uploading!
Cheers!
Rob

After watching the video I couldn't help but click on one of the other
Datsun Roadster videos - something about the Datsun 1600 that ate Paris -
and watched a couple out for a weekend of antiquing in the country only to
have the video end with an off-road romp that resulted in a full on roll
over! (I'm not making this up.) What happened to these people? What happened
to their Roadster? What happened to that nice antique painting in the back
that went flying?
Just curious,
Greg
