I'm baffled by this idea: (quoted from below)

I don't get that at all. Even if it were spelled correctly, it still
makes no sense to me. Isn't a "defense", by definition, "defensive"?
It seems to me that what we've seen here is a classic case of
misrepresentation from a seller trying to inflate the bids on his item.
This same person then tries to "defend" himself on the list, all the
while pretending he is defending someone else. That's twice he has
misrepresented himself, in only two dealings with him. That's a bad
average, if you ask me. And so this thread has served a useful purpose
in my estimation, of rooting-out and exposing a fraud, who would
otherwise prey on the unsuspecting members of this forum.
Just my opinion, of course.
