I have a 1966 1600. When I drive for a long period, turn her off and try to
start it right away. The starter only clicks. I am told it is a heat issue
due to the location of the starter and exhaust. Not all of these cars do
it, I have heard of a few. Mine does not always do it, but more often then
not. I am told that an aluminum heart shield between the exhaust and
starter should fix the problem. I am willing to give it a try. Not sure of
this helps you but I thought I would throw it out there for you. If anyone
has more insight I for one would be all ears.
