Attempt No. 3 (removing all colons in the text this time)
Good Evening List!
In the interest of fine-tuning the handling of my car, I wanted to get a
real-world comparison of my car compared to a stock 2000 Roadster. So,
Fergus and I went to the O'Neil Public Scales in Santa Ana this
afternoon and WEIGHED IN.
In the first corner , My car - 1969 2000, Ford 302 V8 (iron heads, alum
intake), T5 trans, aluminum radiator, Ford 8.8 rear end, roll bar, and
approx 4 or 5 gallons of gas.
Front Axle 1260#
Rear Axle 1080#
TOTAL 2340#
In the second corner: Fergus' car - 1969 2000 STOCK!, no roll bar, not
sure how much gas.
Front Axle 1160#
Rear Axle 940#
TOTAL 2100#
Delta (i.e. that means "difference" to any of you non-engineer types out
there):
Front Axle 100#
Rear Axle 140#
TOTAL 240#
The total delta is smaller than I thought it would be. The greater delta
at the rear was a little surprising at first. However, I would guess the
roll bar represents 40 or 50 lbs of the rear delta. Fergus has a roll
bar at home in his garage and is going to weigh it for me. The other big
difference is the Ford 8.8 rear end, which is much bigger than stock.
Just for kicks, I am thinking of removing the front bumper and hood to
see how much the weight is reduced and to see if I notice any handling
difference.
I recently had the front wheels toed out a bit more. This noticeably
improved the turn-in during our recent SoCAL Mini-Iron Bottom Run two
weekends ago. I might toe 'em out a bit more.
Other ideas?
Aluminum heads ($1000 to $1200) would shave another 50 lbs - might be
worth it, especially if you coupled the heads with a hotter cam, etc.
Dart Aluminum Block ($3,000+ for the block alone) would shave somewhere
between 70 to 80 lbs - probably not worth it...
