If you are thinking multi viscosity it better be 80W-90. The gears are under extreme pressure, and need an extreme lubricant. Synthetic works great, but if you have any seals that old, and perhaps getting a bit hard (close to being done, but perhaps only sweating, but not quite leaking) synthetic will find them, and you'll get leaks.
