Hey all,
I met a few members of the Brisbane area(Queensland) Datsun Sports Owners
Assoc.... I learned a little Aussie Datto speak: Sports is a roadster, 510
is a 1600, Ute is a Pick up, George Bush is a swear word, Bonnet and boots
are parts of your car-not things you wear...
Oh yeah, and if anyone tries to sell you an Aussie spec L20b, its was
probably
cast by Holden and should be considered a coffee table base.
6 or 7 roadsters attended at Moreton Bay(sp), fantasticly clean well turned
out cars... some nice trick resto bits etc, including a guy who has stainless
steel hubcaps turned out... look very close to stock and are very cheap
to make - I think he said 30 or 40 dollars a piece, very cool solution.
My personal chauffeurs, Alan Bent and his better half Ruth Primmer, gave
me a really nice drive in Ruths fast 1600 Sports(Methinks the engine is
a bit tweaked) and I got a tour of a small corner of Alans Datsun collection
310 wagon, 320 Ute, 1500, 1600, etc... plus they made Kangaroo sausages
for breakky in a meal fit for a lumberjack(fortunately I qualify- certified
hazard tree faller in the Province of British Columbia). Thanks for that!
In sydney for 3 days, i know a couple of people offered lunch or whatnot,
but I'm pretty booked up with activities... so unless you've got a Cedric
or something truly cool in your collection, I may have to pass. I'm in
Glebe Point if you're close though.
