Newbie Steering Question

Hi guys Im another newbie with  a 1970 SPL 311 non op.  Heres my question
what is the nut size that holds the steering wheel on ? 5/8" fine thread?
3/4", metric?  Does anybody know I need to find one and local hardware store
doesn't have it.  Its kinda hard to move around without a steering wheel and
the after market grant kit does not include it.  Any help would be great.
