Blinkers work! RE: Dash Gauge lights and blinkers do not

My blinkers work now !   I am not sure why.  
   
  - I put new lights in front (model 1157) , 
  - Removed the heavy duty blinker cylinder unit to the left of the driver 
pedals. Cleaned it and put it back.  Does the body of this unit need to be 
grounded?  I think I should replace it with a new unit.  What is the latest 
unit I should use to replace it?
  - I re-seat the ignition wire.
   
  but no dash lights still.
