Excellent idea about the skiing lanyard. I've used those eyeglass
retainer thingees, threaded around the hat adjustment loop in back of
the hat. (You know, has a rope that allows eyeglasses to dangle from
your neck.) Kept my hats from getting lost on more than one trip. But I
like the skiing lanyard idea.

I use a clip on a lanyard to secure my hat when I go skiing - you can
find them at ski shops and sporting goods stores. It's a woven fabric
lanyard with a loop at one end and a spring clip at the other; loop it
around the adjustment starp on a ball cap and clip the other end to the
collar of your shirt or jacket - voila! Many's the run down the slopes
I've finished with my hat flapping behind me on the lanyard - but at
least I din't have to stop and go back up the hill to retrieve iot!
