>It's kind of a shame that change often doesn't happen until it is
forced upon us by circumstances. Seems like we could do better at
looking ahead and being proactive.

I'm with you. And I'm under the belief that the wall is coming up faster
than the public would feel comfortable. We need that next generation
battery to perfect the hybrid. There's been some recent developments,
but it's still not here. We're waiting for some young genius out of MIT
or a hovel in India to make that leap of creativity.

Take a small ICE, tuned to run a certain RPM at maximum efficiency, to
turn the generator and AC compressor. The Genset charges the pile, which
powers the motive motor(s), Add regenitive braking to regain a fraction
from the kinetic (Can't recover what was spent overcoming drag). And
we'll have a dam good setup, but it needs the small, light pile that can
handle the duty cycles and have the storage density. Think of an
electric forklift battery (BIG WAMPIN battery array), about the size and
weight of our car's battery.

My optimist side sayz- "the future will be cool!"
My realist side says- "Gee, I hope your right, smiley!"
