hi everyone
this coming weekend i will have my roadster at willow springs international
raceway in rosamond, ca, for a weekend of fun with N.A.S.A. i run it in the
HPDE4/TT category, running against the clock, albeit with other cars on the
track at the same time. (thanks again victor).
last night i was changing fluids and filters, and noticed something that
seems strange: with the radiator, the crankcase, and the transmission, none
would accept as much fluid as the "book" says they should hold, or that seems
right.
the 3 core 1600 radiator swallowed only 1 gallon of water, one quart of
anti-freeze, and one 12 oz bottle of water wetter. (the book says 1.7 gallons
total, so about 1.5 quarts short?). the 5 speed took slightly less than 1.5
quarts of MTL before it started running over the edge (so 1.5 quarts short?).
the crankcase took only 6 quarts of oil (7 quart aluminum pan), but i did
change the filter too. maybe that's why? i did manage to get in almost the
whole quart of Lucas synthetic gear oil into the diff.
so, i plan to lower the front of the car off the jack stands to try to get
more fluid into the radiator, and running the engine to get more oil into the
crankcase. what about the transmission? i drained it first, and so i know it
started empty. and the MTL that leaked was clear red.
thank you for your help. and if you're in the high dessert over the weekend
(just north of palmdale) stop by and say hi!
