I found my own answer! And, the answer was be more determined! Add some
heat, lubricate some more, and hit it harder with the hammer. The knuckle
finally slid up the spline on the column.
I had been concerned that there was something that I wasn't seeing and
concerend that it I had hit things too hard, there was something that I was
going
to break that would be expensive or hard to replace.
Thanks anyway. Beautiful spring day in the New hampshire mountains!

Okay... I'm trying to remove the steering column from the steering box.
I've removed the bolts on each side of the knuckle (breaking one of course)
and
I am trying to slide the knuckle up the column. I've applied WD-40,
hammered
some to set up some vibration, and pried with a bar. The knuckle is not
moving.
Any suggestions on how I can separate the steering column from the box?
