ENGINE HAS A SEVERE SPARK KNOCK UNDER LOAD...
I agree with Pat - check what advance your current distributor has.
But also important: What have you set the ignition timing to?
16 degrees BTDC (pre-smog) or zero degrees (smog)?
If you have a smog distributor (which you do unless it's been
swapped or recurved along the way), then you need to use
zero degree timing, which really affects (not in a good way)
low end (off the line) performance.
