I had a roadster painted at a Scheib shop in DC about 20 years ago. was $99
by then... I'd removed every last bit of trim and chrome from the car when I
brought it in and had done my own bodywork and figured it would look pretty
good- surely increase the value of the car by at least that $100.... I get
the car back, and it actually did look pretty nice except one flaw- there
was a grey primer rectangle on the back panel... the one thing I'd forgotten
to take off was the tag, and instead of unscrewing the 2 screws and taking
it off, they masked it off and sprayed the car. :-( still looked ok with
the license plate though... I believe any of the cheap places only give it a
quick scuff and spray it. anything that does't peel off when scrubbed will
still show afterwards, just in the new color. they'll do extra work for
extra money.
