I haven't done it but I don't think it would be a good idea. The gears wear
in two places because that's where the engine usually stops. If you install
the flywheel in a different position that should help. But, the ring gear is
only about $100 at the dealer and not that hard to change. What people doing
cars where the gear is simply not available is to take it off and turn it
over.
The back side of the gear teeth are not really the right shape but better
than the worn out front side.
