pilot bearing

Hi, all.  you may remember me as "Help!!!!!"

days later, the pilot bearing came out using a car body hammer

but now the new one doesn't want to go in peacefully.  do i have the wrong
part?  how bad would it be to reuse the old one which now slides in with
only a little difficulty, and seems in pretty good shape?
