It may not be documented, but I would think the same pattern should work for
the R16 head in increments of 25-30 lb/ft, 40 lb/ft, and 45-50 lb/ft, right?
Of course, there's always the Star Torque Technique: torque it 'til you see

I can give you part of the answer - no, don't torque the head from one end
to the other. Generally you start in the middle of the head and spiral your
way out, or in some cases, zig-zag your way out, to the ends. Here's the
pattern for the U20:

The U20 head is torqued in three steps: 43 lb/ft, 63 lb/ft and 65 lb/ft.
Amazingly, the factory manual says nothing about the steps or the sequence
for the R16. It only gives the final torque spec, which is 45-50 lb/ft.

change all of the gaskets on the way out as I put everything back

down the head?
Should I start in the rear and work forward? Then proceed
backwards? Or start at the rear again?
My plan is to go through the torque sequence at 20ft lbs,
30ft lbs, 40 ft lbs, 45 ft. lbs then end at 48-50 ft. lbs.
Is this the correct way?
In addition is there a recommended torque on the exhaust, intake
manifolds?
