I've always done my own transmission work for just that reason-
it's easy, and it seems that shops always screw it up. In fact, my 5 speed is
a 'the shop screwed it up' buy for $100 that needed $7.53 worth of spacer- and
they'd replaced all the bearings and synchros!
Actually, it sounds like they didn't tighten the mainshaft nut...
No, these transmissions should last a long time- see if your shop will make it
right.
