I have heard (not seen one, yet, but have a couple of pans to try it) that you can take 2 steel oil pans, cut them in half, and weld the two deep sections together - yields a steel higher capacity oil pan. The comp pans I have seen are scraped on the bottom (some fins maybe ground off) and 1 with a hairline crack like it hit something..
