Rear End

I think the rear end is stock but I'm not the first owner as I was only 7 when 
the car was bought.

So, how do we identify the rear ends? Are there identifying numbers I can go 
to? Are there numbers to check the gear ratio too?

I thought I should ask before I unscrew the first bolt.
