To all,
I gave this a little more thought and searched the Internet for some options
and came across these people (rareparts.com - suspension experts). Perhaps
some else has contact them, but here's the response I received. I will call
them today to check out an alternative to the ball joints.

Do you carry or have access to the lower ball joints for a 1969 Datsun 2000
Roadster???If so, how much are they???The original part number is
40160-25900.??The equivalent part number is a McKay BJ-A9.
Thanks,
Perry Smith

Well, there is good news and bad news.
I now have the Homer/Urvan BJs I won on EBAY.
They are HUGE and VERY robust.
They do approximate the Roadster BJs in shape (the "Y" shape) but are far
too big and the taper is also huge.
So.... It is back to the drawing bored for a cheaper alternative.
The bottom BJ needs to be a LOCATING type and the upper BJ is of the LOAD
BEARING type,
so any vehicle with a wishbone type of front suspension is a likely
candidate.
