I had someone borrow my pictures from a telephone system I sold on eBay.
Unfortunately for that person I always host my pictures on my own web sites.
not only did this seller use my pictures without my permission, he linked
them from my web site instead of copying them and then using them.
I was at work when I discovered what was going on, and my ISP at the time
would not allow management of a web site from an outside logon, so I called
a friend with the same ISP and had him go in and change all of the pictures.
He wanted to put porn pix in their place, but I firmly told him no. We used
cartoons, and the last picture explained what this seller had done.
I found this seller on the second day of his auction. He did not find out
what I had done until a couple of hours before the end of the auction and
tried to recover, but his auction failed badly. Unfortunately for him he did
not have any reserves set. In the end an item that should have sold for
over $1000 sold for about $150. My auction for the same item sold for
$1400.00. It is nice to know that at least some bidders have a little honor
too.
I, like a lot of sellers, spend a lot of time getting the pictures right,
and I don't appreciate having them "borrowed". Now that I am entering into
eBay auction management as an income source I will begin marking my pictures
to prevent this kind of theft.
I looked at the ball joint auction in question here, and the pictures were
very good. In fact I kept them as a pictorial reference of what these parts
should look like in the event I have any questions when working on my car.
I am not above keeping good documentation, whether just a good picture, or
even a whole web site if I want to be sure I will have that information when
I want it instead of finding the link to that information no longer works.
If I want to use someone's information on my web pages I contact the person
who posted the information and ask for permission to publish that
information myself. I don't think I have ever been turned down.
