Eric,
Correct. The rear jackshaft bearing for the U20
should have THREE HOLES in it. They need to be lined
up correctly to bring oil up to the head.
The R16 Camshaft uses the same bearings, but R16 only
needs two holes in that rear bearing.
I had a picture of my U20 block with a thin brass rod
to show the oil hole placement (straight shot from the
top of the block) into that hole. Perhaps a "gun
drill" and a dremel to radius the bearing opening
(head off, jackshaft pulled).
Other times I ran into "no oil" was a oil pump gasket
installed backwards (original gasket had an offset
hole, later gaskets had a larger oval hole to prevent
that). Another occasion was some RTV that broke off
and plugged up the oil line leading to the head. The
engine had been rebuilt some 40,000 miles longer. Oil
to the cam finally got plugged, seizing the camshaft!
