I used a 1993 KA24DE and transmission from a 240SX. The 91-93 motors have an
OBD I computer which has less wires to hook up and does not require a catalytic
converter and second oxygen sensor. The 1989-1990 motors are KA24E and are
single overhead cam. They tend to have more aftermarket parts available but do
not have as much horsepower as the 91-98 DE motors. The nice thing about the
89-90 E motors is that they were also installed in most of the Nissan pickups
until very recently. The pickup version did not have as much horsepower as
ther 240sx version. The 240SX has a front sump oil pan which is right in the
way of the Roadster cross member. The pickup trucks had a rear sump pan. You
can get the oil pump pickup tube and the oil pan from a Nissan truck and
convert the front sump 89-90 240SX motor to a rear sump. Recently they started
putting the KA24DE into Nissan Frontier and Xterras. These have a rear sump
pan. So here are your options for the oil pan.
1. Use the 240SX KA24E or KA24DE and have to modify the pan or cross member,
or driveshaft to make it all fit.
2. Use the 90-98 truck KA24E and have less horsepower (134) than the 89-90
240SX.(140)
3. Use the 89-90 240SX KA24E with a 90-98 truck oil pan and pickup tube.
4. Use the 91-98 240SX KA24DE with a 98- 04 Nissan Frontier or Xterra oil pan
and pickup tube.
5. Use the 98-04 Frontier or Xterra KA24DE and have less horsepower (143) than
the 240SX (155)
There are lots of other part swapping possibilities between the motors to get
more performance.

Andy
