Chris,
Volvo's do have cam sensors and coils which can go bad, but the problem you
are talking about is usually repaired by cleaning and sealing a wiring
junction by the firewall. On the passenger side of the car, by the strut
tower is a wiring loom junction. Just unplug it and clean out any corrosion
that you can find. I would then clean it with electronics cleaner. You can
use dielectric grease and put it back together, or just put it back
together. This is a fairly common problem. Once water gets in that contact,
it just wears it away.
