Gary:
As you are aware, I ordered one of your Electronic Ignition
distributor upgrades for the roadster approximately a year ago.
Unfortunately for me, not long after I ordered it, I experienced
a clutch failure, during the repair of which, I took my time to
correct a number of other deficiencies in the several months that
the car was 'down'.
Part of this included the reinstallation of a Pertronix ignition
system which had been installed on a distributor body which I
completely refurbished and including a new vacuum advance
assembly.
When I finally got the car 'back on the road', I was so pleased
with its performance, that I believed that it was 'about as good
as it could get' with a stock 1600cc engine. It was so good that
I didn't believe it would be possible to discern any improvement
in performance, were I to install the 'EI Dizzy Kit' which
arrived in the midst of doing this work. (Plus I didn't want to
introduce an additional 'variable' with all the other stuff I was
doing.) Because I didn't expect any profound improvement, I
'took my time' in getting around to installing your EI Dizzy.
I was wrong. Upon its installation, when I took my first trip
with your EI yesterday, the improvement was immediately
apparent. First, no choke required to start, and the idle was
'pretty smooth' at 700 rpm, something I hadn't had previously.
Then, on a long, relatively steep, steady grade on the way home,
where I've never been able to do better than 50 MPH (pedal to the
metal), I was at 53 and still accelerating, when I had to 'back
off' because of slow traffic in the passing lane.
I want to express my appreciation for your fine work in
developing a retrofit of a later Nissan Electronic Ignition for
use on our Datsun Roadsters. I am amazed at the substantial
improvement it provides, beyond what I believed to be the 'best
performance achievable' with a stock 1600cc engine, even when
upgraded with a Pertronix ignition. Your installation
instructions, and the instructive information provided are 'top
notch'.
