Do you mean 10-15 pounds for one inner fender and box section? The doors are
down to the skin. The fenders and hood are fiberglass. The trunk lid is steel
but only weighs a couple of pounds anyway. I could gut the trunk lid and
remove the hinges to save a few pounds. It looks like I'll have to cut lots of
other stuff away. I guess I can replace some of the sheet metal with aluminum.
Maybe converting to coilovers with a three link in the rear would save some
weight. Those leaf springs are pretty heavy. I could also lose the frame from
the rear axle back if I converted to coil overs.

A NOS set I have don't weigh all that much - maybe 10 - 15 lbs. each and
they do provide strength to a relatively soft frame.
How about the doors etc.

How much good does the front sub-frame do for the car? I am in need of
removing about 200 more pounds from the car and the front subframe looks
like
it's just along for the ride. I would like to cut everything from the
firewall forward except the lip that the fenders bolt onto and the very
front
section that the grille hangs from. I already have a radiator support that
bolts to the frame, so apart from holding up the fenders and keeping the
squirrels out what good does the front subframe do? Is it especially
important for rigidity? Has anyone cut theirs off before? How much weight
would I be saving?
Thanks,
Andy
