Actually, the det is a fine motor for the Roadster. I did the swap almost two
years ago, the first one as far as I know. Plumbing does become an issue, but
with a little creativity it is not too much more complicated than a n/a SR.
On mine, I routed the exhaust through the inner fender down along in outside
of the frame rail, then between the chassis and leaf spring, finally exiting
in the stock location. I had a T3/T4 hybrid with external wastegate on a
custom manifold. This was probably more turbo than needed. A good T28 ball
bearing unit would probably have been fine. Mine might have been putting out
around 230-250hp at 8psi when I sold it. I'm not sure if anymore would be
recommended. It was pretty scarry when she hit full boost around 4k. I
thoroughly enjoyed drag racing it. After the first night at the local drags,
none of the imports would run against me. I had to race Detroit V8's and
such. Ron is right though, the stock rear end will fail on you. This is a
given. I broke three of them. But I'll tell you, nothing is cooler than
grenading a rear end on the drag strip. People just could not believe the
power under the hood of the little car. My swap took somewhere around six
months, mostly weekends. I'm sure it could be done faster. Here is a small
write up on it: http://www.sdsefi.com/features/nov02fairlady.htm
