Some further research shows I got the story wrong. Turns out my wife did
-NOT- have a '67 2000, but a '66 1600 she bought from her brother in '71 for
$450. According to Alan (her brother), the car had just enough body damage
that he believes it probably became another car a long time ago.
Unfortunately, there is no paperwork to find out the VIN.

It was my wife's sister's ex-husband who owned two 2000's (model years
unknown).
