I had the Volvo brake conversion done and I love it. The stopping power of
the brakes is impressive. I know that stock roadster brakes work very well
if maintained properly, but as you say getting the replacement parts
(cylinders, calipers, etc) can be very expensive.
The bad news is that the Volvo parts are not that much cheaper than the
Datsun parts. The good news is that they are readily available and will be
for the forseeable future.
The write up of the conversion on the 311s.org site is very good. I would
recommend the conversion unless you are a bone stock kind of guy.
