The two cylinder Datsun 2000 problem has been solved. It was a case of very
dirty carbs (for which I am deeply embarrassed, its sort of like ring around
the collar) with it being a coincidence that the jets for #1 and 4 were clogged
with grit at the same time. A complete disassembly by Ed, soaking and air
compressor cleaned them out and now the car runs like a top, or as close to a
top as a solex 2000 can run at idle. So if all is well, and the rain don't
fall, I'll be able to drive the solex on the next Iron Bottom in April 2005,
and
then to Solvang later that month.
Ed now has the red one for some carb work, springs and a new Dizzy base. Its
important to support people who can work on these cars, they are a vanishing
breed.
In the meantime, for us SoCalers, I have some new roads to explore in early
June. Anyone have a recommendation for a Saturday in June to terrorize
northern LA County, and Ventura County residents?
