Looking at the bidding history, the winner was only bidding against
himself as the other bidder (you?) only went to $1020.  If the seller
was also the winner then there'd be no point in bidding it up to the
reserve price because then selling fees come into play.  If there's no
winner then there are only listing fees.

It appears the reserve was $1845.  If that's retail, then this was no
great deal.  The $500 was only a teaser price to get you to start
bidding.  THAT is the purpose of reserve prices.
