Steve,
Keep the 3.89 gears from the 1600 vs. the 3.70 gears from the 2000.
You'll get a bit more acceleration out of it and will hardly notice
the RPMs difference or fuel economy with the 5th gear overdrive.
Lots of guys end up switching out their 2000 gears for 1600 gears
intentionally.
My '68 is set up that way. :)

Subject: rear-end swap
Hello,
I spun a bearing on my 2000 solex engine and am in the process of
rebuilding the motor. I'm now thinking of exchanging the entire drive
train from my ratty 2000 body and installing it into my almost restored
1600. My question is, can I switch out the rearend gearing or must I
completely remove and replace the rearends?
Thanks
Steve Harvey
