Okay racers, correct me if I am wrong.
I checked out the diagrams on this site, and our roadster stock seats are of
the acceptable variety (provide lateral constraint when threaded thru the
headrest rods) and our side of the rear deck shoulder strap mounting point
(that is where it is on my '69, not sure of the posed '67 question) is
equivalent to position "E". (more like 1/3 of the way between E and C in the
first diagram) Their diagrams don't match their text, as the text says D and
E are okay, but one diagram has a red X over the E.
I have 4 pt harnesses (the Diest variety) led thru the head rest bracket to the
outboard side threaded hole in the side of the package shelf, and it is very
solid. The captive nut in the rear wheel well is threaded with exactly the
same size as the waist belt mounting points on the tunnel. Once installed, it
is rather slow getting belted up, and ya better remember to take the garage
door opener out of the glove box before belting, or else you'll take the whole
thing apart again.
I have also seen a custom plate made that allowed the harness to be routed thru
the base of the rollbar mount on the back deck, but the threaded insert sold me.
On the rollbar idea, well, it has been noted many times that the 'stock'
roadster rollbars mount to body sheetmetal, not the frame. You will notice the
racers have cut thru the floor to mount directly to it, otherwise they wouldn't
pass inspection. The rollbar would/might be somewhat helpful in a side impact,
but driving style should consider it cosmetic only. (who recently wrote "I
consider it the safest motorcycle on the road" ?)
Oh, and don't forget to pad the rollbar, as the next softest thing in the area
