Same thing happened to me in 1975. A friend had a
1969 or '70 Chevy (can't remember make, but it had a
big-block monster engine). I went to make a left turn
onto the road from a gas station, the damn thing took
off like a house on fire and the next thing I knew I
was skidding across two lanes of traffic. About the
same time I got it pointed straight ahead, the
automatic tranny shifted into second and the
acceleration let off. Of course it happened in front
of a local cop that didn't like me (reasons shall
remain unkown), and he didn't believe my explanation.

When I went to court, I had a writeup from a local
shop that explained what had happened. The judge gave
me a $20 fine because I admitted that it had happened
to my buddy once that I knew off. Cheaper than the
$125 it could have been, especially since I was a
long-haired delinquent in a small California desert
town...

Roadster content: my little car is idling weird.
It will start off around 650-800 RPM after warming up,
but after approximately 5-15 minutes more the idle
will creep up over 1300. It seems to be increasing a
little every time I drive. Possibly related, I need
to apply the choke for a longer period of time than in
the past to keep it from dying.

A while back I remember seeing something about the
vacuum advance being a possible culprit, but I deleted
the message. Any ideas about how to check this out
and pinpoint the cause? I have a Pertronix module
that has worked fine for 6 months, everything else in
the ingition chain is stock or equivalent. Spark
plugs and wires are in good shape, and the head has
been completely rebuilt.

  TIA for the help!
