Most parts stores sell a negative battery post with a green screw-type knob
on it. If you unscrew this knob you have no ground and nothing works. If
you take the knob with you the thief can't screw it back in. You can bypass
the post with a small-amp inline fuse and keep the electronics working, but
starting the car will blow the fuse and unhook the ground. Creative people
can run the ground cable into the cockpit to hide the mechanism.

I have seen plans for a solenoid-activated fuel line valve with wires
leading to a magnetic switch hidden somewhere behind a panel or a fender,
etc.. Carry a little magnet on your keychain and swipe it over the hidden
switch when you enter or exit the vehicle. If you forget there is no
penalty, just swipe it again to get the fuel pumping. Thieves are lazy and
if the theft takes too much time or energy they will find an easier car to
steal. Unless, of course, they pick your car up with a forklift and put it
in the back of an 18 wheeler.
