Hello all,
Spent the day putting an exhaust system on the 66. When I started this
morning it was 28 F. I cut off the old system last weekend so I removed the
intake manifold and pulled loose the exhaust manifold. Slid out the header pipe
and went in where it was warmer. Cut the flange off the header pipe. Added a
flex section and 40" of 1 3/4" pipe. Had to add a couple little wiggles at the
header end. The exhaust flange and the holes in the frame don't exactly line
up. Built solid mounts to bolt the pipe to the stock mounting locations by the
holes in the frame. (darn tired of that rattle!!) Reduced the 2" inlet of the
turbo muffler to fit the 1 3/4" pipe. Clamped the muffler to the end of the 1
3/4" pipe. Got the exhaust manifold back in place, the pipe through the frame
bolted down tight and the muffler on. Tomorrow I will do the hump over the
rear axle and out the back with 2" pipe. When you look at it there does not
seem
to be that much involved but I did a bunch of up and down, cutting, fitting,
drilling, welding and general mucking around. Looking forward to getting it
back on the road. Driving the Tahoe around is killing me in gas.
