Driving home today my idle speed jumped up tp 2000 rpm and would not
go back down. My first thought was the carb linkage. I stopped and checked and
it was fine. After I got home I got out the timing light and checked the
timing. It is now about 25 degrees BTDC and does not change with rpm (vacume
advance disconnected). Time to pull the distributor and figure out what broke
in the
mechanical advance. Last time I had this one apart, years ago, the base plate
was pretty well groved from the little ball bearings. Does anyone have new
base plates? Might end up putting new bushings into it also.
