Another way is to feed a length of rope into the cylinder and gently ease
the piston up against it. I like this as you don't have to worry about
keeping air on it if you have to stop mid-job. Plus, with air you can still
break the valve seal and drop it. The rope method insures that this will
not happen. BTW, tie a large knot in the end of the rope so it can't slip
all the way in!
