hi all,
once again, i am researching a motor swap for my 66. i have had the
body at the body shop for a year now, and the guy still hasn't done
anything after repeatedly saying he would get to it soon. well, i am
going to pull it out and take it elsewhere. i'm sure many of you have
had similar frustrating experiences.
before i take it to another body shop, i am going to try to do a motor
swap and have the engine test fit and get it ready - then go to the new
body shop. i have been looking for replacement options, and i am
having a really hard time locating the usual suspects - the sr20de and
the ka24de. seems like most of them are front wheel drive setups. i
need a RWD obviously, but am at a loss where to go ask for one... and
to find out how much they cost.
i am not totally stuck on those motors however. my first choice is the
sr20de, then the ka24de, but then i could even go with a ka24e or even
a mazda rotary, and i know some have done a V6. the ka24e seems to be
simpler and less powerful of all three nissan motors. i'm not sure if
it's worth it or not. i have seen a picture of one in a 510. the
rotary seems to have a cool factor. there are different rotary's out
there... and i'm not sure what one would work best. there are one's
for each model of the rx-7 that came out and i'm not sure what the
differences are. seems like the 13B is popular among datsun 510
owners, and i know i saw a rotary in a yellow roadster at the last
surfside show in dana point. it was on a trailer, and fairly
incomplete. i don't know anything about it beyond that.
so... here are my questions:
1. i am in the LA area. who are semi-local JDM importers?
2. if i can't get an imported motor, what years of the american 240sx
are RWD?
3. is there an american sr20de RWD? or only japanese/australian?
4. anyone done a rotary? which one?
5. anyone done a v6? which one?
6. are there other options i'm not thinking of?
7. anyone have one of these motors they want to get rid of?
by the way, if i can find a motor, i have a complete 67.5 1600
motor/tranny that are freshly rebuilt and a few extra parts to go with
them. i have a new short starter, a new jet-hot coated header, a new 2
liter clutch assembly, and a new gary boone EI dizzy. i will be
looking to get rid of these to raise some cash for the other motor/
bodywork... but only if i can find a swap candidate.
thanks for your time,
Evan Troxel
