Andy,
This is why I have been using a free
program called MailWasher to preview my
e-mail while it is still sitting on the
server. If I don't like the sender I
can blacklist the e-mail address and the
unwanted e-mail is deleted at the
server, BEFORE I bother to download it.
I never see a lot of viruses that way.
MailWasher does allow you to preview a
questionable e-mail before you decide to
keep it or trash it.
I don't think the members who were shown
as sending e-mails with viruses actually
sent them, but over the last couple of
weeks I have received several e-mails
with roadster list members addresses
(friends in MailWasher) get as far as
Norton.
The only drawback for a DSL or cable
user is the need to manually download
the e-mail you really want. Overnight I
may delete 35 or 40 e-mails from the
server, and keep 5 or 10. A few
suspicious ones I recently let through
had viruses attached, so now I don't let
suspicious e-mail through.

Subject: Email "bugs"
I've been getting spammed for 2 days now
with the
"new" email bug (lots of variations of
it). If anyone
has openned an attachment to any email
which contains
the text line, please scan your system:
"Please see the attached file for
details."
The title of the email is either "thank
you", "your
application" etc...
I think a few folks on the list have
this bug and
have unknowingly been forwarding it.
My firewall "nukes" the attachment, but
the balance
of the email gets through, and lots of
it too!
Thanks,
Andy
