Broken lifter

Anybody out there have any short-cuts/tips/general advice on replacing a
broken lifter?  The exhaust lifter to the number 4 cylinder went the other
day.  I was thinking I might be able to manipulate the cam out far enough to
press the bad boy out and replace it without having to take off the head.

Any thoughts?
