The pistons and the bell are matched sets. I bet your plunger is either bent or is worn. It won't have an effect on steady state driving but will have an effect on acceleration. The piston will only rise as how much air is entering the engine. The needles are identified only after removing them from the piston and there is a stamped # and/or letters.
