Yeah, the hot-rodding tradition still lives on in the form of import racing
and customization. The platforms are different (because high school kids
can't usually afford $100K hot rods) but the approach is the same.
BTW, I think I still have some black & white shots of Tommy Ivo, Don
Garlits, Masters & Richter and a few others from back when my Dad and I were
photographers at Pacific Raceways. I always wanted to see Greer, Black and
Prudhomme but never got the chance.
For you youngsters, that was the team of Dale Greer, Keith Black and Don
Prudhomme, who built the first of the (for the time) long-wheelbase Top Fuel
dragsters that compiled a match-race record of 293 wins and 7 losses. There
are so many model-car sites out there that a quick Google serch didn't find
any good links to shots of the real car, but here's a site that has shots of
