Thanks to all who replied so far. I checked the overflow pipes and there
does not appear to be any fuel leaking out of these pipes, although there
was a remnant (tiny amount) of what appears to be oil at the end of the
pipe. Also, the pipes on my carbs are only about four inches in length. They
do not go down to the area of the oil pan.
I also removed the dome and piston, pulled the choke out and looked into the
jet. There was nothing running over, so I guess the float level is not too
high. As this is my first forray into playing with the carbs (and the rest
of the engine for that matter), I proceeded to spill the damper oil all over
my hands. Well at least I'm learning!
Any other observations, comments, suggestions are appreciated.
