Zerks...problems

I began to grease the Zerk fittings since I can only assume that the PO
greased them years ago.  Anyway, on the upper A-frame shaft, I can grease the
zerk in front but the rear one (closest to the firewall) would not take in any
grease.  I replaced the fitting, and when I tried to add grease, it still will
not take any grease in.   Any suggestions?
