without actually driving it.
Hey All,
Believe it or not, I am now starting to think about how I am going to gt my
roadster home after I pick it up from Ross at Sports Imports. Now Ross is a
great guy, but I don't think he is going to deliver a car 1500 miles away. I
am planning to buy a truck next Fall but as of right now it appears I have
two choices: have the car delivered via covered auto transport or find a way
to trailer it. After spending as much on the car as I will have I have no
intention of driving it home. It's never going to be a "trailer queen" but I
would like to get it home safely.
Now the first option is pretty easy: you pay someone a lot of money and they
deliver the car via truck to an address of your choice. It's a little
expensive if you want the truck covered. (I do)
My second option sounds better to me but may be a little harder to achieve.
I have actually acquired the loan of a covered auto transport that can be
towed by any 1/2 ton (3/4 ton more preferable) pick up truck with a frame
hitch. Now I have tried all of the normal rental places and they all rent
big SUVs-with no trailer hitch. U-haul rents pick ups but only "in town"
meaning you have to return the truck to the place you rented it and they
charge you extra for mileage. So that's out.
I'd like to trailer the car myself but would need to either locate a place
that will rent me a pickup truck with a hitch or find someone who is willing
to let me use their tow vehicle for about 10 days. All insurance to be
covered by me.
Anyone who has any ideas or possibly can give me a hand please contact me
off list.
Thanks,
Andrew Murphy
