Ivan,
Just because the alternator is capable of delivering 60 Amps or more does not
mean it has to deliver that amount of current, or that you should fuse it to
that
level. Datsun roadsters are wired for a maximum current flow of up to 30 Amps
or
so. Unless you have a high power sound system in there somewhere 30 Amps should
give you enough reserve current to run the car and keep the battery charged. In
truth you probably don't use much more that 20 Amps at high load levels. If you
fuse the alternator for more current than the wiring is rated for and something
shorts out, especially in the main supply wiring, you could burn up part of the
wiring harness without blowing the fusible link. If the Ammeter is between the
alternator and the short you could destroy your Ammeter, which would become the
fuse instead of the fusible link.
