They dont make gearboxes close ratio anymore. First gear would
only be useful on a SoCal highway at rush hour while sixth would
be 140+ mph at 6000 rpm. A final gear ratio around 2.90:1 would
make it possible to reach 60 mph in second at 6000 rpm but also
(in our wildest dreams anyway) 180+ mph in sixth. With a 3.70:1
another 1400 rpm would be needed to reach 60 mph in second.
I have a Getrag 420, 6-speed but the ratios are even further
apart than the 350Z box. I'm looking into having new gears
made. Would probably cost less than the price for a new 350Z
gearbox. A Quaife 6-speed synchro gearbox is $5200.- They
also have a close ratio gearset for the Nissan 6 speed for
about $1600.-
