I think the POR-15 products are more like a coating than a paint. And I don't
think you'll get high enough temps to cure it.

Without pulling the engine and thoroughly prepping the surface, you aren't going
to get a great paint job in an engine compartment, but it is possible to make it
look better than before, certainly. Once upon a time I did a quickie job on my
engine compartment with some of the grey spatter paint (also used for trunks).
This was pre-resto, obviously. It didn't stick all that well, but it did look
better.
